Empathy

Empathy is an important concept to understand when trying to solve an issue that many people face. In order to do so, you must be able to share the feelings that another person is feeling. Place yourself in the shoes of the other person to determine why they might be having certain feelings.


An empathy map may be used to establish who is involved with the problem and/or issue and the emotions that these particular people experience due to this occurring. The main focus being on the people and how they may be affected is what is at the forefont of the analysis of the issue.


Here is the empathy map that was created to fully identify how teachers and parents might be feeling towards AI bias. A deep understanding is what the end goal of completing an empathy map and investigating how to move forward with the emotions that are felt by the affected users.



Throughout the design process, being able to refer back to the visual map of the users is a great tool to reference. Looking at the behaviors and attitudes of the users is essential to continuously keep in mind when trying to think through potential problems and solutions to these problems.
