Wicked Problem:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more prevalent in classrooms due to its exponential growth in popularity. As new tools and products are being published for educator and student usage, there is concern for the bias that comes with the utilization of AI in the classroom. The output that AI produces may disadvantage certain groups of individuals and groups. Thus, effecting the learning experience of students.
The manner in which AI is "taught" is through input of immense amounts of information and then in analyzes the information for patterns to model in its' decision making. The output of AI based on the data inputted and processed can contain biased information originally stemming from the original data. The popularity of educational tools that utilize AI are being introduced in the classroom and there are not regulations and/or rules in place for educators and students to follow to ensure the safety and access to information.
Define Process:
In order to understand how individuals are challenged with this wicked problem, user personas were created to gather a deeper understanding of challenges and perspectives of individuals who may be affected by this issue.
User personas are used in the design thinking process in order to focus on the needs and pain points of the users. In order for the motivations, emotions, and behaviors of the personas. Here are three examples of user personas: parent, teacher, and EdTech development employee.
